A clump forming perennial native to New Zealand with lance shaped leaves up to 3m long when mature. The cultivar 'varigata' grows with creamy yellow leaf margins and darker green centers.

Produces panicles of dull red flowers to around 4 meters in height in the summer months.

Makes an amazing architectural plant.

Hardy to -10°C
