Oroxylum Indicum - Indian Trumpet Tree
Native across the Indian subcontinent and through southern Asia, this tree can reach up to 18m tall with leaves up to 1m long. The flowers appear in the summer months, up to 30cm long and somewhat fleshy, with purple outer petals and creamy inner petals. Blooms open during night and are pollinated by bats.
The leaves, flower buds, fruit pods and seeds are edible and used in Asian cuisine, particularly grilled or pickled!
