Madagascar Carnivorous Pitcher Plant
One of two pitcher plants native to Madagascar, the Nepenthes genus has evolved to attract (and eat!) insects as a source of nitrogen.
Pitchers form at the tip of its leaves that attract insects and other small creatures. The pitchers have a smooth lining that make it impossible to keep grip on; once trapped, its prey is digested by a strong digestive fluid similar to mammalian digestive processes.
In the wild, it is found in wetlands such as bogs and swamps. As such, it prefers well-drained soils that retain water well and does not enjoy long periods of wet.
Frost tender, keep above 10C.
