Native to French Polynesia and naturalised in Hawai'i, this large shrub or small tree can reach up to around 7m tall with attractive grey-green foliage. Left alone it will grow into a small upright tree, but with regular trimming can be maintained as a shrub. Leaves are evergreen, with new foliage coming in silvery and emerging from red buds.

Flowers are highly scented and almost brush-like in appearance, orange-red with many branching stamens, with flowers lasting a long time.

Highly attractive to nectar-feeding birds and butterflies!
