Conophytum Calculus - Living Pebbles
Native to the Knersvlakte region of South Africa, this winter grower produces paired leaves that have fused together to look like balls or pebbles. The leaves reach up to around 2cm tall, sometimes solitary and sometimes growing in clumps. New leaves are produced from a small slit in the top of the leaf pair, growing out of it with only one set of leaves at a time. Flowers grow from the same slit, yellow to orange in colour, around 1cm in diameter. Blooms appear during the autumn months, opening at night, and said to smell like cloves.
Frost tender, keep above 0°C at all times.
