Cassia Grandis - Pink Shower Tree
Native across southern Mexico and northern South America, this semi-evergreen tree reaches up to 30m tall with a spreading crown. Leaves are large, up to 25cm long, with up to 20 pairs of oblong-shaped leaflets growing evenly.
Blossoms appear from late winter through the spring months, though this can occur later in cooler climbates. Flowers are white-pink, growing in racemes, as long as the leaves and drooping, appearing when the leaves have dropped over winter.
The seed pods are woody, up to 50cm long. The flesh smells bad but tastes somewhat sugary, used as a laxative.
Frost tender, keep above 5°C at all times.
