Filipendula Ulmaria - Meadowsweet
1000 Seeds
Meadowsweet is a perennial native across Europe and Western Asia and naturalised in North America. Reaching up to 1.2m tall, the toothed leaves are compound with up to 5 pairs of leaflets, dark green on top and with a whitish downy underside.
Blossoms are small, each flower only around 1cm across, growing in cymes. Long stamens give the appearance of fluffy white flower heads. They have a very sweet smell, often used dried in potpourri.
The entire herb can be used to flavour desserts and alcohol, with a slight almond flavour, and can also be used to treat a variety of medicinal issues. Historically it was used to give rooms a pleasant smell.
Fully hardy down to -20°C.
