Manilkara Hexandra - Khirni Tree
Native across Southern Asia, this slow growing evergreen tree reaches between 15-25m tall, with its trunk reaching up to 3m in circumference. The bark is greyish, rough and deeply furrowed. Leaves are simple, 15cm long, oblong in shape, somewhat hairy.
The wood is used for carpentry and for structural work. The fruits are yellow when ripe, sweet in flavour though also reported to be somewhat astringent. Historically the fruits have been used to treat a myriad of health problems from kidney issues to skin problems.
