Salsola Oppositifolia - Pink Saltbush
Native across the Mediterranean and northern Africa, this shrub reaches around 2m tall.
Leaves are small and dark green to grey in colour, fleshy and opposite, needle-like in shape.
The flowers originally appear green, very small, as spikes along the stem. After fertilisation the petals grow a pink coloured wing to support the fruit.
It is very tolerant of poor soils and salt, so can be grown well, even at the very edge of coastal areas, but enjoys plenty of sunlight.
Frost tender to about 5°C.
