Native to Southeast Asia, this perennial is often grown as an annual in non-tropical areas. A common ingredient in many Asian cuisines, this Ipomoea can reach up to 3cm tall, often growing in water.
Leaves are lanceolate, up to 15cm long and 8cm broad, growing from the tip of hollow stems that float. Flowers are trumpet-shaped, around 5cm in diameter, white with reddish centers.
Leaves and young shoots can be eaten raw, or are cooked into stir fries. Harvest at around 30 days. It has also been used in traditional medicine for ailments like diabetes and fever. Please speak to a GP before using in a medicinal context.
Frost tender and should be kept above 10°C.
