Native across Europe, the Pyracantha is a small tree or shrub reaching up to around 3m tall and wide, perfect for creating a screen or hedge in the garden. Evergreen, their leaves are ovate, dark green, glossy, around 2-3cm long. The stems bear small rigid thorns, around 0.5cm long.

Flowers in early summer. Flowers are white and small, growing on corymbs. Blooms are followed by long-lasting berries. The Orange Glow variety produces bright orange fruits, around 0.5cm in diameter. The fruits are very popular with birds and persist through the winter, making them a valuable food source for wildlife. The berries can also be cooked into jams. Please note that consuming the seeds may cause gastro-intestinal problems.

Enjoys part shade.
