Hypoestes Sanguinolenta (Phyllostachya) - Polka Dot Plant
A native to Madagascar, Hypoestes Sanguinolenta, also known by Hypoestes Phyllostachya is a showy plant is commonly known as the Polka Dot plant or Freckle Face for its blotchy leaf colouration.
Reaching up to 1m tall in its native habitat and around 50cm when potted, it is well loved for its variegated ovate leaves. Dark green with large splotches of colour ranging from white to pink to dark reds and even purples, they are guaranteed to brighten up a room or garden.
Flowers are small and purple, insignificant compared to its foliage. Hypoestes tends to start off in a rounded shape and become taller and more upright as they age: regular pruning helps keep them bushy.
Highly frost sensitive and will suffer at 10°C and below.
