A perennial widespread throughout the United Kingdom and northern and central Europe, the common buttercup can reach up to 70cm tall and is best known for its small yellow flowers.

Leaves are lance-shaped, toothed at the margins, slightly hairy. Flowers are  borne on stalks, with a single flower per stem, cup-shaped and bright yellow,  around 2cm in diameter. Blooms appear from spring through autumn months.

Occasionally used in medicinal contexts, this plant is poisonous and  when broken down the juice can cause blistering and dermatitis.

Fully hardy to -15°C.
