Red Bottle Brush Plant
Calliandra calothyrsus is a small, branching tree native to Mexico and Central America, growing to a maximum height of 12m tall.
The species has soft fern like leaves divided into many straight leaflets. The leaves may reach 20 cm long and 15 cm wide which fold against the stem at night.
Its bright red bottle-brush blooms are produced from spikes up to 10cm long. Often flowers all year round, and can begin to bloom from as early as six months old.
A fast grower, this tree is drought tolerant and fixes nitrogen in soil.
Frost tender to around 10°C.
