Lipstick Tree - Annatto
A small shrublike tree from tropical Americas it is the best source of the natural colour 'Annatto' often used in food colourings, and known as the 'Lipstick Tree' for its use in tribal marking paint by the native people. Grows pink flowers followed by bright red inedible fruits. The pulp of the fruit is where the colouring is made from.
Parts of the plant are used to make medicinal remedies including, sunstroke and burns, and headaches.
